Bangladesh is the group champion beating strong India

In the last match of the group stage of the SAFF Women's Championship, Bangladesh won the 'A' group by defeating India 3-0. Unbeaten in the tournament, Sabinas will face Bhutan in the semi-finals.

Mosammat Sirat Jahan Sapna scored two goals for Bangladesh on Tuesday (September 13) at Dashrath Stadium in Nepal. Krishna Rani Sarkar scored the other goal.


Bangladesh is flying in SAF women's championship. After beating Maldives by 3-0 in the group stage, Pakistan was thrashed 6-0. And Sabina Khatunra has already confirmed the semi-final from Group 'A'. India have already made it to the last four after winning their first two matches.


Even if the semi-finals are confirmed, the Bengal Tigers' aim is to become the group champion. So they want to give concessions to India, the five-time champions of SAFF.

Receiving a pass from skipper Sabina in midfield, Krishna Rani lofted the ball to Sapna who advanced towards the D box. Swapna beat the Indian goalkeeper with a perfect shot from the penalty area. After 10 minutes, Krishna Rani made the team happy with a double goal. Taking possession of the ball from a long throw, the A forward of the Bangladesh team hit the ball into the net with a perfect shot from the left corner of the D box.


After the break, Swapna cheered Bangladesh once more. On the counterattack, Sabina passed to the forward. Swapna found the D box empty and quickly ran to the net. An opponent's defender tried to block but failed. India got a chance to repay a goal in the 66th minute.


But Rupana Chakma's skill saved the red green representatives from conceding goals. Bangladesh dominated the rest of the match. However, Swapna, Krishnara could not increase the number of goals. In the end, Bangladesh left the field with a 3-0 victory. It also fulfilled Sabina's dream of becoming the group champion.


With this victory, Bangladesh won all 3 matches from Group 'A' and entered the semi-finals as group champions. On the other hand, India entered the last four from the same group by winning two matches. India have won all five editions of the Women's SAFF Championship so far. In contrast, Bangladesh's success was only runner-up in 2016.
