Former umpire Asad Rauf has died



Asad Rauf was an ICC panel umpire from 2004 to 2013. He managed the first ODI in Umpering career in 2000. He became a panel umpire in this edition in 2004. In 2006, he got a place in the elite panel of ICC.


The year before that, Rauf managed the first test match of his career. Six years ago, he was removed from the ICC panel over spot-fixing allegations in the IPL. After that, he started a shoe and cloth business in order to earn a living. In his umpiring career, Asad has managed 64 Tests, 139 ODIs and 28 T20 matches.

Like many, he would have been as popular as another native umpire, Alim Dar, if he had not been dropped for spot-fixing allegations. Expressing grief over his death, Pakistan's former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood wrote on his Twitter, "It is very sad to hear the news of the tragic death of former umpire Asad Rauf." May Allah keep him in the highest place.'


Asad Rauf made his career as a player before entering umpiring. However, he did not get a chance to play for the national team. Asad played 71 first-class matches for Pakistan National Bank and Railways. He scored an average of 28.76 there.
