Terrible earthquake in Taiwan, danger of tsunami.

In the space of a day, a strong earthquake hit Taiwan again. On Sunday (September 18), the 6.8 magnitude earthquake was felt in the southeastern part of the island.

According to the news agency Reuters about the local meteorological bureau, there have already been some reports of damage from the earthquake. Even a tsunami warning has been issued. 

According to the Meteorological Bureau, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Taitung County. A magnitude 6.4 earthquake was also felt in the same area on Saturday (September 17) evening.

Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey or the US Geological Survey (USGS) says that the magnitude of this earthquake in Taiwan on Sunday was 7.2. And its center was 10 kilometers deep from the surface.

After the earthquake, Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning of 1 meter height in parts of Okinawa Prefecture. 

Taiwan is considered an earthquake prone area as it is located near the junction of two tectonic plates. Last June too, a strong earthquake of magnitude 6 was felt on the east coast of the country. And last March an earthquake of magnitude 6.7 was felt. 

In addition, in 2018, 17 people died in a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in the country's tourist city of Hualien. Another strong earthquake in 2016 killed hundreds of people. Earlier in 1999, more than two thousand people lost their lives in an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 on the island.
